For the first DYI (Do It Yourself) article we will be creating the floral skirt I wore in my latest outfit post.

Let's get started!

There are few simple steps on creating the skirt which we will be covering. If you are a complete beginner, and you don't know how to do all of the steps, don't worry we will do more how to articles covering the basics.
  1. Create the paper design for the skirt.
  2. Pin the paper design on the fabric and cut out the skirt
  3. Sew the darts.
  4. Sew in the hidden zipper
  5. Sew the front and back piece together.
  6. Add the waistband.
  7. Clean finnish the bottom of the skirt.
Pre vytvorenie sukne existuje niekoľko jednoduchých krokov, ktoré si definujeme a neskôr v článku dôkladnejšie rozoberieme.
  1. Vytvorte si papierový strih.
  2. Prišpendlite strih na látku a vystrihnite sukňu.
  3. Zašite záševky
  4. Všite skrytý zips.
  5. Zošite spolu predný a zadný diel.
  6. Prišite pásik.
  7. Zahnite spodnú časť.

Create the paper design for the skirt

To create a paper design you can either use those pre made from sewing magazines or you can print it from the internet or you can do one for yourself.
Pre vytvorenie papierového strihu môžte použiť kúpený strih z rôznych špecializovaných časopisov alebo si môžte strih vytlačiť z internetu alebo si ho môžte vytvoriť sami.

With this skirt I tried creating my own desing because I knew really specifically what I want to create. I created the so called drindl skirt or some call it pleated skirt. Mine is 45 centimeters long so that it will be from waist to knees.

Pri tejto sukni som si vytvárala vlastný strih pretože som presne vedela akú sukňu chcem. Vytvorila som si skladanú sukňu s dĺžkou 45 centimetrov takže bude od pása až po kolená.

Pin the paper design on the fabric and cut out the skirt

Don't forget to prewash the farbic first.
Also, watch out for seam allowance, if you didn't add it on the paper add it on the fabric and then cut it. 
Watch out for those arrows, which defines the way to narrow the design on the fabric. The arrow should allways be paralles to one of the edges of fabric. If you don't know what I'm talking about find the word Grain in the sewing dictionary.

Nezabudnite látku najprv vyprať aby sa nezrazila pri ďalšom praní.
Tiež nezabudnite pridať jeden centimeter na zašitie, ak ste to neurobili už na papier dokreslite si nové okraje na látku.
Posledná vec, pozrite si aby vám šípky išli paralelne s okrajom látky. 

Sew the darts

Darts on this skirt are very specific. 
Záševky na tejto sukni sú veľmi špecifické.

They contain from three lines. The two lines on the edges are sewed together in the way that the center line ends up in center. You then press the fabric in the way that the center line stays at the center as it is showed on the pictures below.
Pozostávajú z troch čiar, pričom dve okrajové čiary sa zošívajú spolu. Látka sa potom prežehlí tak, že stredná čiara ostáva v strede švu.



These were on the front. On the back we had different type of darts, they also consists from three lines and you sew the two edge lines together. The difference is on the pressing. With the first one you press so that the fabric is layed equally on both sides of the line. 
With this second one you press it on one side, so the center line will not lay in the center of sew. 

Teraz spomínané záševky sú na predku sukne. V zadu sme vytvorili iné. Zadné záševky taktiež pozostávajú z troch čiar a zošívajú sa dve okrajové, avšak sú zažehlené do boku a nie na stred ako predné záševky.
It will lay on one side of the sewing. We pressed it in the way that the crease will be facing on the opposite direction from the center of back part of skirt. You can do it however you want, I like it more this way because it crumples less.
Zažehlili sme ich tak aby smerovali od stredu zadného dielu. Takýto spôsob pomáha aby sa sukňa menej krčila avšak je na vašom vlastnom výbere ako chcete aby sukňa vyzerala.

Here you can see that the two parts of back part are pressed in the way that the crimples are facing in opposited direction than on the other side.
Na obrázku je vidno ze záševky na jednej strane sú zažehlené oproti tým na druhej strane sukne.

Sew in the hidden zipper

It is good to sew the zipper befor sewing the sides of skirt. For this skirt you need a zipper at about 20 centimeters long, mine was longer so I had to cut it, I picked white one so it won't be so visible. 
Je dobrým zvykom prišiť najprv zips až potom zošívať kraje. Pre túto dĺžku sukne treba 20 centimetrový zips, môj bol dlhší takže som ho musela skracovať. Vybrala som si biely aby nebol viditeľný.


Sew the sides of skirt

Remember to always try it on before sewing it with sewing machine. You might need to make it tighter or ease it a bit.

Zošite boky, pričom najprv zfercujte sukňu a vyskúšajte si ju ak by ste museli pridávať uberať a až potom zošívajte na stroji.


Add the waistband

Create the waistband, remember to add extre centimeters to your waist measurement, since you need the ends to overlap. Sew on the button hole on one end and then the button on the other.

Prišite pásik, nezabudnite pri vystrihovaní pridať navyše niekoľko centimetrov aby sa vám oba konce prekrývali. Našite gombíkovú dierku a na druhý koniec gombík.


Clean finnish the bottom

Clean finnish the bottom. You can either zigzag it and leave it like that if you want, or you can run it with overlock or you can zigzag it and bend it and then stich through it or glue it with that special sticky band, or create a rolled hem as I did, which is defined in the dictionary as: Often a feature of a high end serger. it can also be done by hand with a folding technique - fold, fold again, fold again, and stitch through the rolled hem you have created.

Zkončite spodok, pričom môžte použiť viacero techník. Na mojej sukni som vytvorila rolku, teda som dvakrát zahla látku aby nebolo vidno okraj a tak som ju prešila.
